Vancouver under a dump….

December 24, 2008 Leave a comment

It certainly feels like Christmas in Vancouver, Dec 24th, and there is about 3ft of snow on the city, more coming down.  We have shoveled the sidewalks probably 4 times today, it is just dumping buckets.  Thankfully no need to get out and about, but we did sneak out to hit Vanlawn for some swim time with Big G, and hit Chapters on the way back for a coffee and some books.

Tonight we are having a big dinner with family at Osler St, and then tomorrow the big guy in the red suit swings by……. Fri night mom and dad have a date night for dinner and a Canucks game with Fox and his GF Nicole, should be fun!

Santa’s coming! I KNOW him!

Hey there all you ‘cotton headed ninny muffins’ (c’mon Boon mane the movie) , there is nothing more Christmas feeling than being absolutely slapped around the noggin with 12” of snow. Don’t get me started on the Blizzard of ‘96….

So as we head into the Christmas season, the Gaver is WELL up for his first Santa encounter at the mall, look for that pic in a few days.   He has been making his list and checking it 2x, all the while learning to shout and giggle uncontrollably……

Exit from Maui, 29F? Really?

Our last few days in Mai were a little distracting – hence the lack of posts.  Little Gav hit 104F and we had to goto the Dr to sort him out, it was pretty tricky with him being so upset.  A mix of teething, which caused an ear infection, which caused the fever etc.  Needless to say we didn’t get far from the flat the last day on the island.

The day we left the clouds opened up, the perfect weather to make it easy to say bye to the beach.  Great flight home, and here in Seattle just in time for the coldest, and longest, cold snap of the last 2 decades.

From 1 extreme to the next…….

Overcast in Maui….

So yesterday Gav hit the water no less than 3 times.  He just couldnt get enough of it.  First he had his AM walk on the beach with his coffee, some feet in the surf and a dip in the pool, and then he had some beach time where he rode his wake board in the surf (yup he really did) and then he enjoyed the pool during sunset with dad.

After he went to bed, mom and dad enjoyed dinner on the lanai watching the whales go past sticking their tails out of the water, and blowing great big spray shots into the air.

This AM he had another walk with his coffee, and actually got some walking time in.  Dont be fooled by the large feet next to his, those werent holding him up, there was just a conga line queue to navigate.  He did pretty well.

Now he is asleep, breakfast is on the table, its overcast, dad is reading about geotagging his photos so people can see latitude and longitudinal information about our photos and videos.

Ocean Walking

G woke up in a much better mood, but we still think his tooth is causing a little hangover.  We had a nice (shorter) walk this AM on the beach, and Gav even got some of his own steps in on the sand.  Great fun to see and hear him squealing as he walked and talked (to himself).  He wasn’t quite sure where the water kept coming from, or why it made the ground so soft to walk on.

We also saw some whales about .5 mile off the coast, they must be migrating or something, but it was a large group.  Some of their tails were massive and even from the shore which was quite a distance they looked humongous.  Really cool to see though………..

We are planning to head to a different beach today, even if it might be only for 5 minutes……

Beach Walk and a little surfin’

December 7, 2008 Leave a comment

We started the day out today with a little coffee and a walk on the beach, followed by Gav and mom hitting the pool for some paddle time.  Gav loved the wake board thingy, but he kept wanting to stand up, and well, there just wasn’t a wave to catch…………..

He is down for nap time, mom and dad are hunting for some breakfast…….. more later.

Id love to put more vids up, but Soapbox (MS video) is BROKEN.

Well I don’t know what’s going on at Soapbox, but maybe they rebooted their server.  Like a 5 Mb video should take 4 hours from upload to published.  No comment.

Mmmmm Sand…yummy

Videos coming, when MSN Soapbox decides to actually work.

So, we hung out at the pool yesterday with a late checkout, and got Gav some water time. After lunch we blasted out of the Fairmont and found our condo, its about 5 minutes from the hotel. While the building was probably constructed in the 50’s, our unit was gutted and renovated less than 1 year ago.  So, the entire thing is brand new, and really swish.  Brand new kitchen appliances, bathrooms, lighting, granite and slate everywhere, rain disk showers, and of course half a dozen ceiling fans.  Daph has most definitely pulled off a great find.  To top it off, we are on the beach.

On the beach means near sand.  Something G has never tasted, until today.  He felt it necessary to top off his breakfast with a ‘hand sandwich’ (get it?  sand… oh never mind).  While it looked appealing to him because of the ease it could attach to him, it lost its essence with a poor grainy finish.

We had a nice dinner in last night – so nice to cook your own meals, and watched a Jeff choice movie.  We think Gav is getting another tooth, the Beach water level is rising with how much drool he is pouring out, and he has been pretty moody.  Its like a tooth hangover.  Anyways, he keeps smiling even while he whinges, so we know its not personal.

We get up and out the door this AM pretty early for a beach walk with our coffee, and got G a little more than toe deep in the ocean.  He is now resting comfortably in the bedroom while breakfast, coffee and more blogging are pursued.  We plan to spend more beach time later and test if G can sleep on a towel under an umbrella.  Fingers crossed………….

Later.

After an early departure we landed in Maui yesterday and made it to the Fairmont.  We are here for 1 day then off to our condo nearby.  Gav was a pleasure on the flight, it helped he scored his own seat, but he actually smiled the entire time.

We hit the hotel and after Gav chilled with his Kukui nut lei (see pic) , he was the first to get the timezone slap.  He started to mushroom around 6pm (Maui is 2 hours behind Seattle) so we had a quick cocktail in the Ko Bar (Sakatini and Lime Drop) before mom and dad had some room service.  Today, G-man was again the first to ‘experience’ the time zone, which meant a 4AM stirring, and by 5 he was doing laps around his pack and play.  We had an early breakfast and a walk by the beach, and he is now sleeping again.  No worries there, time for the newspaper and some coffee, and of course blogging !

This morning Gav also had his first taste of the ocean.  He was tired but we dipped his toes in after breakfast, mom and dad couldn’t wait.  The first 2 waves were a little confusing, but the 3rd, the one dad decided to stop recording, was when he figured out a) waves are cool (that’s salt water El!) and b) he wanted to kick and laugh and flap his arms Jenny style .  Of course this moment was lost to poor cameramanship, but some vid and pics were captured.  Definitely more to come this week………….
